Benalmadena Cablecar collaborates again with Calamorro Skyrace 2023

Benalmadena Cablecar has once again collaborated with Calamorro Skyrace 2023, an event held on Saturday 29th April. The ascent of Mount Calamorro in Benalmádena is the first event of the international circuit of the Skyrunning World Series 2023, which includes new locations and some already iconic ones from the Alps to the Andes.

Spain, France, Austria, Portugal, Canada, Peru, Switzerland and Italy will host these events in 2023, bringing together the best athletes in this discipline, characterised by its toughness, beauty and technical complexity. The world championship is made up of 13 events, to be held in eight different countries. The Benalmádena event was the first of these and brought together elite athletes of 25 different nationalities, in both the men's and women's categories.

After a tough race of 27.5 km and a positive difference in altitude of 2,270 metres, marked by high temperatures, the winners of the first race of the Skyrunner® World Series 2023 were Antonio Martínez (Spain), with a time of 2:39:01, from the Scarpa team; and Iris Pessey (France), with a time of 3:21:17, from the Scott Running team.

As last year, the organisers prepared a Fan Zone for the runners' families, as well as for Benalmádena residents and sports fans who were able to cheer on the participants at the top of Mount Calamorro. Teleférico gave out 250 admission tickets with a 50% discount for the families and companions of the competitors. The people of Benalmadena were also able to enjoy a 100% discount to travel on the cable cars and watch this spectacular race.

Skyrunning is the most technical, exposed and pure mountain running discipline due to the climbs and descents involved, with minimal flat sections, sometimes requiring the use of the hands to save steps. It also produces images of unquestionable beauty.
